Year End Message & Reminders

Dear Saint Mary’s Families,

I want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone for your kindness and support this year. I know I speak for all the staff when I say that is a privilege to teach your children each day! We feel very lucky to serve such a vibrant and caring school community.

I wanted to share a few important reminders and dates before we officially sign off for the 2024-25 school year.

Important Dates

Monday, June 30—Last Day of School, Dismissal at 11:00am

Report Cards sent home by email (PowerSchool Parent Portal)

Tuesday, August 26—Main Office reopens

Wednesday, September 3—‘Meet the Teacher’ Night, time TBD

Thursday, September 4—First Day for Students

Class Placement

We are still finalizing class lists for the next year. Your child’s teacher will reach out to you in early September.

We are a very small school, and combined classes are the norm. I want to reassure you that being placed with the same teacher or in the same combined grade as the previous year offers many benefits. It does not reflect your child’s progress or achievement.

We take great care in creating classes that are balanced and reflect the diverse strengths and needs of all our students. As all our classes are currently at capacity, even a single change can affect multiple students. For this reason, we cannot accommodate requests for changes to class placements. We appreciate your understanding.

Youth Engagement Update: We are the SMES Sharks!

Our Grade 5 and 6 Leadership team conducted a school-wide vote last week and the results are in! We are officially the Saint Mary’s Sharks! In the next few months, we’ll be developing a logo and purchasing a mascot!! Thank you, Grade 5s and 6s!

Dragon’s Breath Toy Sale Event

A big thank you to Grade 6 student, Darsh Sinha, and all the families who donated toys to the ‘Bring a Toy, Share Joy’ event. The proceeds from the sale—approximately $150!— have been donated to the school and will be put toward the purchase of new outdoor furniture, chosen by the Leadership Team. Thank you, Dragon’s Breath!

Lost & Found Items

Please have a quick look through the lost and found for any personal items. All clothing that is not claimed will be donated over the summer.

Summer Closure

The school will be closed from July 1 through August 26. The school email account will not be monitored during this time. I will continue to check my email (emily.johnson@hrce.ca) over the summer so please reach out to me directly with any urgent concerns.
